2PM – 2:45PM -> Building Community

  • Discussion of distributed leadership and participation (Intro to decentralized structures)
    Largely popularized by Frederic Laloux’s book “Reinventing Organizations” here are a few key points:

      • Teal Organization Principles: Operates on self-management, wholeness, and evolutionary purpose. It transcends traditional hierarchies, empowering individuals to make decisions and contribute based on their expertise and insights.
      • Non-Hierarchical Participation: In teal organizations, leadership is fluid and distributed. Decisions are made through a collective process that taps into the wisdom of the group rather than through top-down mandates.
      • Wholeness and Personal Growth: Teal environments encourage people to bring their whole selves to work, integrating personal development with professional roles. This approach fosters an atmosphere of trust, openness, and genuine relationships.
      • Why It’s Effective: This structure supports adaptability, responsiveness, and innovation. It respects individual contributions while focusing on the organization’s evolutionary purpose, creating a dynamic where both the organization and its members are in a constant state of growth and learning.
  • Open floor for members to propose new ideas, projects, or areas of interest -> group exercise
  • Discussion on potential collaboration and resource allocation
